Links!
The site now has one page outside of the main page. Note the new links tab at the top of the screen. I hope that someday it won't be so lonely.
These are the sites that I frequent. I think the sites one goes to on the Web probably says a lot about them. Seems like an interesting social science experiment. What it says about me, apparently, is that I'm way too into the news and current events. You can judge for yourself however, if you just head on over to my new Links page.
If you haven't heard of some of these sites, here's a little bit of info. MinnPost is a non-profit journalism enterprise here in the Twin Cities. Along with ProPublica, it is a breath of fresh air in the news business that has seen newspaper circulation and TV news viewership declining. They certainly don't solve the problems the media face, but they're certainly a step in the right direction. Don't tell my former boss (well, technically boss's boss or something like that) at the Rockford Register Star that the newspaper is dying, however. I interned in the Online department for two summers during college.
In the Luther section, there are sites that I had an opportunity to work on. I created the Chips student newspaper site using Drupal, and while I never got it totally polished around the edges, it seems to do an adequate job. I also worked on the KWLC website, and did a little bit of work on the former Sports Information site, which got an excellent face lift in just the past two weeks.
Pandora is a great streaming "radio" site. If you haven't checked it out, you must. And XKCD is a web comic that seems pretty targeted toward the geek crowd (and yes, I include myself), but even my wife enjoys it.
So there you have it. That's what I do on the Internet regularly. I hope to add updating mike-owens.com to the mix as well. You found it, obviously, but remember it's Mike [dash] Owens [dot] com. Don't forget the dash.
